Accessibility

As part of every website, I endeavour to meet web standards and also WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and WAI (Web Accessibility Initiative) guidelines.

The WCAG are a set of guidelines set out by the World Wide Web Consortium, or W3C, which help web developers make web content accessible to people with disabilities.

This page outlines some of the features built into the website in order to facilitate an accesible website.

Site Validation

This website is designed to comply with XHTML 1.0 and CSS standards. The website has been validated using the W3C validators. Every effort is made to ensure that all pages within the dizzy.cx website are valid.

Valid XHTML   Valid CSS

Site Markup Structure

The website has been built using XHTML. The formatting of the page is handled through CSS. The page markup has been structured so that the main navigation appears before the content area, thus providing easy access to navigation elements on portable devices.

Site Navigation

In compliance with section 8.1 of the WAI, I have ensured the navigation and flow of this website does not require javascript or CSS to be enabled and therefore the navigation is laid out as a hierarchical list. You will see this navigation if you disable stylesheet within your browser.

Fonts

All fonts or font familes used within the site are available to all users. Font sizing is set as a percentage, rather than pixel values, enabling users with a visual imparement to increase the text size to suit their needs.

Platform Support

The website has been tested in Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Firefox, Opera, Konqueror and Safari browsers. The content of this website can also be rendered on mobile devices such as a PDA without the need to redirect the user to an alternate version.

All pages on this website are printable without the need to open printer friendly versions of each page. This is achieved by assigning a print stylesheet to each page within the site.
